Contracted by the Royal Netherlands Air Force (RNAF), Raytheon will provide a wind farm mitigation upgrade to the radar system at four Netherlands air bases.
The contract comes after the technology company successfully implemented the first upgrade to the primary surveillance radar (PSR) at the RNAF Woensdrecht air base, back in 2012. This initial employment means that a nearby existing wind farm can be expanded, without compromising flight activity at the base.
The application of the mitigation technology will reduce the presence of the wind farm on the radar screen, whilst improving the probability of detecting an aircraft target. Due to be completed within 12 – 15 months, Raytheon state that upgrade execution will include WiMax interference filtering (4G Filtration), alongside changes to PSR hardware and software.
