Reducing Our Carbon Footprint

Introduction

Pager Power has been around for 25 years. Throughout our history as a company, environmental responsibility has been a strong part of our ethos, through both consultancy services for renewable energy development and internal processes behind the scenes. At the centre of our focus right now is our goal to achieve Net Zero emissions by 2050.

Advice We Are Following

There are lots of ways to go about being green. Pager Power is basing its strategy on advice from the Carbon Trust [1], the Science Based Target Initiative (SBTi) [2] and the Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Protocol [3], which states:

The GHG Protocol Corporate Standard classifies a company’s GHG emissions into three ‘scopes’. Scope 1 emissions are direct emissions from owned or controlled sources. Scope 2 emissions are indirect emissions from the generation of purchased energy. Scope 3 emissions are all indirect emissions (not included in scope 2) that occur in the value chain of the reporting company, including both upstream and downstream emissions.

What We Are Doing

As an SME, we need to record our Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions in accordance SBTi guidance. This is order to establish a near-term science-based emissions reduction target [4].

We have therefore analysed and recorded our organisational emissions for the year 2021. We have also undertaken an estimate of Scope 3 emissions from office electricity consumption – which was not metered during 2021. We did this by scaling consumption during years that were metered.

We have since installed equipment to meter our electricity use at our current offices.

What We Have To Work On

Our main sources of carbon dioxide are road fuel combustion due to our site surveys, and our electricity consumption for our work in the office. 

Estimated total CO2 emissions in 2021 were 4.7 tonnes with 3.0 tonnes arising from road fuel combustion and 1.7 tonnes arising from electricity consumption.

We will continue to monitor our consumption more accurately and develop ways to bring our net emissions down.
