Wind Power in 2012

Wind Power in 2012
January 8, 2013 Admin

On December 21st 2012, RenewableEnergyWorld.com published a great article summarising notable global wind energy developments and milestones in 2012. Below are 3 of our favourite achievements.

1. In Europe, Scotland’s Whitelee wind farm was extended to incorporate an addition 217MW of capacity, bringing the development’s total installed capacity to a notable 539 MW. The expansion also meant that Whitelee took the title of the world’s second biggest wind development. This is a particular favourite of Pager Power because of our involvment in the development.

2. Another triumph of Europe is the first construction phase completion of the offshore London Array in the outer Thames Estuary. All 175 turbines were installed by the 13th December, and the first 55 have been connected to the grid.

3. Lastly we move on to the U.S. The article reports that the  U.S. Energy Information Administration believes that wind generation will have grown by 16 percent more than in 2011. This is a good indication that the wind industry is still developing and growing.
