Reported in Alaska Dispatch, €15.5 million euros has been set aside by the Finnish government to allow the Defence Forces to avoid large wind farms, in the vicinity of Raahe, on the northwest coast of the country, interrupting their military radar systems.
However the radar modification budget does come with a condition: wind farm owners who wish to develop in the area will need to pay €50,000 euros per wind turbine as compensation for the extensive action the military is taking.
Wind turbine interference with radar ( such as civil, met and military radar) is causing issues to wind developers in other countries including the UK, US as well as South Africa. And all of them have slightly different ways to tackle this problem.
If you would like advice on a wind farm radar concern for your development we invite you get in touch. We undertake work worldwide and will be happy to assist.
