Celebrating Two Years of Daylight Sunlight Services

After recently surpassing two years of Daylight Sunlight services, Pager Power looks back at what led to the introduction of the service, how it has developed over time, and where it may lead going forward.
Daylight Sunlight Introduction
After being incorporated in 1997, Pager Power has provided technical planning and modelling services to clients in over 64 countries. Services initially focused on assessing the impact of wind turbines on radar systems and eventually developed to include assessments for wider aviation safeguarding issues, glint and glare, and telecommunications.
Utilising this experience, Pager Power’s bespoke Daylight Sunlight services were first introduced in May 2024, providing clients with a method to analyse daylighting received by proposed building developments and their surroundings, to help ensure they comply with Building Research Establishment (BRE 209) guidance.
On the development of the service, Danny Scrivener, Pager Power COO, said the following:
“Development of our Daylight Sunlight expertise began primarily with Harry Watson and James Plumb identifying a new service area, as we sought to diversify our services. Daylight Sunlight lent itself to our existing expertise, whilst also being a service for which we could develop our own internal software, which has been fundamental to our success to date. Harry and James were tasked with understanding the guidance and modelling requirements, and set to work on making the service deliverable. Given that we had not developed a new service in some time, this was a daunting task, so a big well done goes to them.
Since then, we have taken big steps in our capabilities, and the team continue to deliver the service to the exceptional standards that we hold ourselves to. I believe there is still great room for growth in this area, and this is something we continue to strive for.”
Daylight Sunlight assessments have since been carried out all across the UK and Ireland, averaging around two assessments a month since the introduction of the service, and this is still gathering pace.
Service Development and Client Impact
Our knowledge and expertise regarding Daylight Sunlight assessments have since been outlined and shared with clients in a number of news articles during this two-year period, with topics explored including:
- How Daylight Sunlight Assessments Support Different RIBA Stages
- How to Navigate Daylight Sunlight Guidance
- How To Mitigate Daylight Sunlight Impacts
Pager Power has also published its own ‘Jargon Buster’ to help provide clients with simple explanations for common terms used in daylighting planning documents.
Our increased experience has also been reflected in the scope and style of assessments provided to clients, which has now been combined with third-party visualisation and modelling software. This approach, combined with our detailed planning-oriented reports, has seen numerous building applications be accepted by local planning authorities.

Sketchup Modelling – Assessment Example
Take, for example, our collaboration with JF Partners Ltd, who utilised the service to assess daylight, sunlight and overshadowing concerns by a proposed new build. After providing a comprehensive technical analysis to the client, the application was approved promptly, and the development began construction. The client said the following:
“Pager Power and Cameron were great in helping us throughout our application and producing the file for us as fast as possible, this helped us stick to our tight deadline. The process was very simple and straightforward.”
– Dion Ferra-Swallow, Managing Director, JF Partners Ltd
Looking Forward
As we enter our third year of providing Daylight Sunlight services, our primary focus is adapting our software to allow additional types of data to be received and processed, alongside improved visualisations of modelling results within our reporting. This will help provide as comprehensive assessments for our clients as possible.
