Back on Tuesday October 8th we visited the Solar Energy UK 2013. Earlier that day, Energy and Climate Change Minister Greg Barker had delivered a morning address outlining the UK Government Solar PV Strategy Roadmap. In which, he spoke about reaching for 20GW of energy to be generated by solar cells by 2020.

Despite speaking repeatedly talking about the 20GW by 2020 target at Birmingham’s NEC, the minister acknowledged that there were four distinct challenges to be addressed by the industry for this to happen:
- Cost-Reduction
- Carbon Effectiveness
- Sustainability
- Scaleability
However, Barker did not only speak of potential obstacles that needed to be considered, he ended by communicating that he wanted the engagement of individuals so as to help the Government create policies.

Solar Energy UK 2013
We sent Danny Scrivener, one of our technical analysts to attend the first day of the event. Danny reported back that “it was great to speak to some of our customers, as well as making new contacts. It’s nice to see, first hand, the progress being made in the solar industry.”
He saw a whole host of solar technologies being displayed, ranging from large to small scale.
