Reflecting on the EADT Business Awards

Reflecting on the EADT Business Awards
July 16, 2024 Danny Scrivener

Pager Power entered the East Anglian Daily Times (EADT) Business Awards competition back in January this year, and we were successful in reaching the finals in both the Growth Business and Employer of the Year categories. Whilst unsuccessful on the night, the team in attendance had a great evening, and it has given us food for thought next time around, whilst also confirming to us that we are making a lot of positive moves as a business.

The Evening

The awards ceremony was a black-tie event held at Kesgrave Hall in Ipswich. On arrival, we walked the red carpet and were greeted with a glass of Prosecco before being shown to our al-fresco meeting place. We were soon joined by X Factor winning magician Captain Lance Corporal Richard Jones, who showed us some impressive card tricks before we sat down to dinner.

At dinner we were treated to a delicious three-course meal which included wild mushroom and blue cheese tart, roast Dingley Deli loin of pork and lemon cheesecake. The food was enjoyed by all, and by some more than others, as one member of the team managed to polish off three portions of dessert! To accompany the dinner was a silent auction which consisted of many exciting items. Following dinner, more magic was performed on stage before the awards ceremony commenced, with the first category being Growth Business, followed shortly by Employer of the Year. Each one of us put on our best Oscar’s losing face as the winners were announced, but on the whole it was a great evening, and a proud achievement to reach two finals on our first attempt.

Reflection

The process of entering the awards gave us a chance to reflect on where the business has been and its direction for the future. Having our achievements recognised as finalists shows that we are doing a lot of things right and, regardless of winning, has focused our minds to achieve even more. Since the evening we have received feedback from the panel which we will now take the time to review and consider for the future.

The overwhelming feeling was that of positivity following the conclusion of the awards, and we will definitely enter the competition next year. We may also consider entering business awards further afield and within our specific industry. Watch this space.
