After a seven-year pause in construction, the Jeddah Tower located in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, has now officially climbed above the 80-floor mark as it races to completion and become the world’s tallest building.

Number One for One Thousand

Proposed at a final height of 1,008m, Jeddah Tower will become the world’s first building over a thousand metres tall, dwarfing the current world record height of 828m held by the Burj Khalifa in Dubai.

With the building projected to be complete in 2028, the building will feature residential and hotel spaces, offices, shopping facilities and an observation deck at 652 metres above ground level [1].

No Easy Climb to the Top

With construction first starting in 2013, the building had reached approximately a third of its height [2] before halting in 2018 due to contractor issues, financial uncertainty and the COVID-19 pandemic. Following a seven-year pause, the building officially resumed construction in 2025, quickly making up for lost time with a new floor added every 3-4 days [3].
