Mobile phone reception is a key consideration for many building projects, and it is important to ensure that effective coverage is maintained following construction. Speak with our experts today, and we will ensure that you understand the risks associated with mobile phone reception for your development. This will allow for early consideration of mitigation budgets, saving you time and reducing project costs through the planning process.
Buildings and (less so) wind farms can disrupt mobile phone reception typically through interference mechanisms known as ‘reflection’ or ‘shadowing’ effects, which can render them unusable. It is important for new developments to not create significant interference that renders mobile phone services unusable. If they do, they should be mitigated.
When is a mobile phone reception survey required?
A survey may be required where, due to a project’s size and scale, existing signal may be affected. There are typically two survey types: 1) a baseline reception survey, which is undertaken to understand the baseline signal quality surrounding a proposed development and/or within newly built interior spaces, and 2) a post-construction survey, which is completed to either re-evaluate the new baseline or to investigate an interference complaint.
For building projects, we are able to undertake room-by-room and floor-by-floor surveys. These surveys are completed with the aim of understanding and ensuring that there will be acceptable internal mobile phone reception once the building is inhabited.
How are mobile phone reception impacts assessed?
For baseline surveys, we will capture data for the most critical locations in or around your project’s location. For post-construction surveys, we either re-visit previous survey locations or take readings at reported interference locations. Our experience in this area means that you can proceed confidently, knowing that mobile phone reception issues are being expertly handled.
