Crane Operations Scheme

Assess crane operations near aerodromes with clear, independent evidence. Expert consultancy supports safe construction planning and engagement with aviation stakeholders.

Why Crane Operations Schemes Matter

Construction projects often require tall cranes that can temporarily exceed the height of the final structure. When located near aerodromes, cranes can breach safeguarding surfaces or interfere with radar and flight procedures.

Without a clear operations scheme, developers risk objections, construction delays, or restrictions that increase project costs. By providing an approved crane operations scheme, you can demonstrate safe practices and satisfy aviation consultees.

What Our Assessment Provides

We assess crane heights and operating positions against relevant safeguarding criteria, including Obstacle Limitation Surfaces (OLS) and Instrument Flight Procedures (IFPs). Using bespoke modelling software, we determine whether proposed crane use creates risks and identify conditions under which operations can be safely permitted.

Our schemes often include mitigation measures such as operating restrictions, prior notification requirements, and temporary lighting plans. Reports are presented clearly for consultees and planning authorities, supporting safe and timely construction.

Pager Power has helped us obtain planning permission across the UK

We first appointed Pager Power in 2004 to assess a number of wind farms in North East England resulting in objections being withdrawn by Newcastle Airport.
