French turbine manufacturing company AREVA is to develop a plant in Scotland that will make 5MW machines and blades for the British Market. The news first came to light from an announcement made by the First Minister of Scotland, Alex Salmond, during his trip to the Paris, after the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding.
The agreement was signed by AREVA CEO Luc Oursel and Lena Wilson, the chief executive of Scottish Enterprise. The factory is estimated to bring around 750 jobs to the area, and is in a prime location to benefit from the nearby offshore developments. This is important as Oursel has expressed a strong desire to contribute to the UK offshore wind industry.
