Using existing standards, the American Wind Energy Association (AWEA) has released a set of recommendations for designing, deploying, and operating Offshore Wind Farms in the United States (US). Beginning the process in 2009, the recommended practices were established by the AWEA collaberation with the US Department of Energy and the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL).
The document focuses on three main areas – Structural Reliability; Manufacturing, Quality Testing, Construction and Installation, in addition to Equipment Safety, Operation Inspection and Decommissioning. Particularly interesting is the section covering the limitations and knowledge gaps for developing offshore wind found in Chapter 12.
