London Oxford airport have now installed the latest generation of radar (pictured below). A recent press release from the London Oxford Airport said that the primary and secondary (Mode-S, MSSR) surveillance radar system, supplied by Thales with project management by NATS, is currently undergoing testing and will hopefully be fully operational ahead of the summer Olympics.
This new radar will enable more efficient transits through local airspace. It also has an option to reduce the effects of wind turbines on the radar picture. This is good news for any wind farm developers looking at sites in the South East as it is possible some areas that were previously unsuitable due to being seen by the London Oxford radar may now be feasible.
Recently Pager Power visited London Oxford Airport and confirmed the location of the new radar. These details have now been added to our database, used for our online tools. To learn more about our online system please click here
