Based at Upwood Airfield, Nene Valley Gliding Club’s Deputy Chairman, Peter Vanetine, has spoken to The Hunts Post about how a proposed four turbine project in Ramsey would shut the club down if given consent. The retired aeronautical engineer is particular concerned about how the cumulative effect of the turbines spinning would cause turbulence, making gliding at the club unsafe.
Already there is a 30m single turbine based on the outskirts of Ramsey, installed in 1993, which Valentine reports has already cause increased instability to more that one pilot at the club. The additional four turbines would extend this development.
The objection has been further supported by North Cambridgeshire MP Shailesh Vara who was taken up in a glider by a club member to show him how the additional turbulence could effect glider safety. After the experience Vara has recommended that the councillors and planning staff who are dealing with the turbine proposal take to the skies also.
